Our Story
In the 1970s, Wilton, Connecticut, faced a critical need for effective emergency medical services. Initially, police officers responded to medical emergencies with limited training and resources. In August 1976, First Selectwoman Rosemarie Verrilli established the Wilton Ambulance Council, bringing together community leaders to create a dedicated ambulance service. By July 1, 1977, the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WVAC) was born, responding to its first call during the town's fireworks celebration. Since then, WVAC has grown from a handful of volunteers to over 60 dedicated members, answering approximately 1,800 calls each year, 24/7, 365 days a year.
