Our Story

Uzazi Village was founded by Hakima Tafunzi Payne in 2012, inspired by her personal journey in birth work. After a life-changing pregnancy at 46, she recognized the urgent need to address racial disparities in perinatal health. This led to the establishment of a community-based doula program aimed at empowering Black and Brown families.

Our Impact

Since its inception, Uzazi Village has made significant strides in improving perinatal health outcomes. The organization focuses on decreasing maternal and infant health inequities through training doulas, community health programs, and advocacy efforts.
