Our Story
Founded in 2006 by a dedicated group of parents, The Pilot House was created to provide children with special needs a space to enjoy social experiences similar to their peers. Initially operating from the basement of Fairfield Woods Middle School, the organization quickly recognized the growing demand for such services. In 2009, The Pilot House moved to its current location at 240 Colony Street, allowing for an expansion of programs and services.
In 2013, the introduction of a therapeutic horseback riding program marked a significant milestone, offering over 1,000 lessons that enhance cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being. Recognizing the need for services for young adults and adults with special needs, The Pilot House acquired a community farm in 2016. This farm serves as a hands-on learning environment where participants engage in planting, selling vegetables, and caring for animals.
