The Snohomish County Public Defender Association was established in 1973, following the landmark Gideon v. Wainwright decision. This organization was created to ensure that individuals facing the loss of liberty under criminal and civil laws receive competent legal representation. With over 140 defenders, SCPDA is committed to integrating anti-racist practices into its operations, ensuring that marginalized communities are represented fairly in the legal system.
