Since 1986, Second Mile Development has been a beacon of hope in Huntsville, Alabama, dedicated to restoring a declining neighborhood plagued by poverty and crime. With a mission rooted in faith, this community development organization has initiated transformative programs that uplift families and empower individuals.

The journey began with the Second Mile Lawn Service, providing jobs and life skills training to 80 teenage boys. This initiative laid the groundwork for further projects, including the Neighborhood Thrift Store, which offers affordable clothing and household items while creating job opportunities for local residents. Recognizing the need for educational support, Second Mile launched the Preschool and Parent Initiative, enhancing access to quality education and fostering parental involvement.

Today, Second Mile operates six key programs: Pride for Parents, Terry Heights and Hillendale Organization, The Second Mile Preschool, Parent Initiative, Baby Care, and The 29:11 Story, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for underserved populations.

Making a Lasting Impact

Second Mile has positively impacted 1,300 schools across 49 states, generating approximately $1 million in support for families in need.
