Our Story
For years, the immense value of Rock Creek and the threats it faced were recognized, yet no organization focused exclusively on this natural treasure. In 2005, the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin received a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to promote the formation of a dedicated group. This led to the establishment of the Friends of Rock Creek’s Environment. In 2011, the organization rebranded as Rock Creek Conservancy to better reflect its mission of people-powered restoration. By 2017, it became a formal philanthropic partner to Rock Creek Park of the National Park Service, amplifying its commitment to this vital ecosystem.
