Our Story

For over five decades, the North Suburban Young Men's Christian Association has been a cornerstone of the Northbrook community, dedicated to building strong families and individuals in an all-inclusive, welcoming environment. The journey began in 1960 when Kenneth A. Thiel opened a satellite YMCA in his home basement, leading to a grassroots fundraising campaign that established the Y's first facility in 1969. Since then, the NSYMCA has continuously evolved, anticipating community needs and creating programs that serve those who need it most.

Impact

Each year, the NSYMCA provides over $560,000 in financial assistance, ensuring that more than 1 out of 5 members can access essential programs like after-school childcare, day camp, and chronic illness prevention.
