Our Story

Ataxia Connection was born from a personal journey of resilience and hope. The founder's experience with ataxia began at a young age, witnessing the impact of this debilitating disease on a loved one. After receiving a diagnosis of Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 1, the commitment to not only live fully but also to support others facing similar challenges became paramount. In 2015, a pivotal moment occurred at the National Ataxia Foundation’s Annual Conference, where connections were made, and the realization that a community was essential took root.

Creating a Community

Upon returning to Nebraska, the vision for Nebraska Ataxia Inc emerged. It was clear that many individuals felt isolated in their struggles with ataxia, lacking the support and resources necessary to navigate their journey. The organization was founded to create a community that not only offers emotional support but also addresses the financial burdens that families face. Living with ataxia often comes with significant expenses, and Nebraska Ataxia aims to alleviate some of that strain.

Our Impact

Through various programs and partnerships, Ataxia Connection focuses on enhancing the quality of life for ataxians in Nebraska and Iowa. The organization provides direct assistance, funding for medical therapies, and resources for education and awareness.
