Middleburg Humane Foundation
EIN: 54-1694317 · Marshall, VA
Our Story
Founded in December 1987 by Hilleary Bogley, the Middleburg Humane Foundation began as Scruffy's Ice Cream Parlor in Middleburg, Virginia. This unique initiative aimed to garner community support for a shelter while raising funds to establish the foundation. Through Scruffy's Strays, animals in need were cared for in loving foster homes, fostering a sense of community and compassion.
In 1994, MHF became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and, after years of collaboration with Fauquier County, opened a state-of-the-art animal rescue facility on a 23-acre farm in Marshall, Virginia, in September 2019. This facility allows MHF to provide comprehensive care for animals in need.
Our Impact
In 2023 alone, MHF served over 1,000 animals, successfully adopting out 496 cats, dogs, equine, and livestock.
