Metro Richmond Flying Squad

Our Story

The Metro Richmond Flying Squad was established in December 2016 to address the critical need for on-scene rehabilitation services for emergency responders. In collaboration with the Richmond Fire Department Foundation and the Richmond Professional Firefighters Association Local 995, a dedicated team of 30 volunteers, including current and retired firefighters and community members, began operations on May 1, 2017. Utilizing a donated vehicle and essential equipment, the Flying Squad is committed to supporting Richmond’s First Responders and assisting displaced residents during emergencies.

Impact

Since its inception, the Flying Squad has provided vital rehabilitation services to emergency responders, ensuring their well-being during strenuous operations. The organization has also played a crucial role in supporting displaced citizens during various incidents, demonstrating a strong commitment to community service.

Unlike traditional emergency services, the Metro Richmond Flying Squad does not receive tax revenues to fund its operations.
