When funding for the Medic One program was unexpectedly cut, Seattle Fire Chief Gordon Vickery and Dr. Leonard Cobb rallied the community, leading to a grassroots movement that raised nearly $200,000 through bake sales, marathons, and donations from children. This remarkable support not only sustained the program but also inspired the creation of the Medic One Foundation, dedicated to securing long-term funding and expansion for emergency medical services.

Over the past 50 years, the Medic One Foundation has invested more than $35 million in grants and programs that significantly enhance pre-hospital emergency care. This investment has contributed to some of the highest cardiac arrest survival rates in the world, ensuring that paramedics in Seattle and King County are equipped with the skills and resources necessary to save lives.
