Our Story

On August 3, 2009, the McGovern family faced an unimaginable tragedy with the drowning of their 19-month-old daughter, Edna Mae. In her memory, Shannon and Cassie McGovern founded the McGovern Foundation to advocate for drowning prevention and organ donation. The foundation is dedicated to ensuring that every child learns essential water safety skills, helping families avoid similar heartaches.

Impact

The McGovern Foundation has made significant strides in raising awareness about drowning prevention, particularly in Florida, where drowning is a leading cause of death among young children. Through swimming lessons and safety education, the foundation has directly contributed to reducing preventable drownings.
