About Mānoa Heritage Center
Founded in 1996 by Sam and Mary Cooke, Mānoa Heritage Center embodies a legacy of stewardship and preservation. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to inspiring individuals to become thoughtful stewards of their communities. The center is home to Kūka‘ō‘ō Heiau, the only intact and restored heiau in the greater ahupuaʻa of Waikīkī, alongside Native Hawaiian gardens and Kūaliʻi, the Cooke’s historic Tudor-style home.
Impact of Mānoa Heritage Center
Since 1998, Mānoa Heritage Center has provided educational tours of Kūkaʻōʻō Heiau and its gardens, connecting students to the rich cultural and natural heritage of Hawaiʻi. The gardens showcase Native Hawaiian and Polynesian-introduced plants, highlighting their significance to the land's historical inhabitants.
