Latino U College Access (LUCA) was founded in 2012 by Shirley Acevedo Buontempo to combat the inequities faced by first-generation Latino students in their pursuit of higher education. After experiencing the transformative power of education herself, Shirley dedicated her life to helping others navigate the challenges of the college application process. From humble beginnings as a pilot program in a single high school, LUCA has grown to support over 6,000 Latino students and families through community programming.

At LUCA, an impressive 97% of Scholars remain on track to graduate or have already graduated. This success is vital for low-income Latino youth, as college graduates enjoy better career opportunities and significantly higher lifetime earnings. Education can truly change everything!
