Independence Academy
EIN: 26-1682732 · Indianapolis, IN
Our Story
The Independence Academy was founded by two dedicated families in Indianapolis who recognized the urgent need for a specialized school for children on the autism spectrum. Cofounders Susan Le Vay and Ruth Padgett envisioned a nurturing environment where autistic students could thrive academically and socially. Since opening in August 2008 with just 18 students, the school has expanded to serve grades 4-12, providing a tailored educational experience.
Impact
100% of Independence Academy graduates are enrolled in college, pursuing specialized training, or employed in a career of their choice within 3 to 9 months after graduation.
