Our Story
The I Was Here Project began in 2016, creating emblematic Ancestor Spirit Portraits that photograph contemporary African Americans as archetypal Ancestor Spirits. This initiative serves as a mindful acknowledgment of American history through public art and history installations.
Impact
The installations act as a transformational force in public spaces, acknowledging and healing our broken citizenship while reshaping the commemorative landscape across the United States.
