I Have A Dream Foundation

Our Story

In 1981, businessman Eugene M. Lang returned to P.S. 121, the elementary school he attended in East Harlem, to inspire a class of graduating sixth graders. Upon learning that three-quarters of the students were unlikely to finish high school, Lang made a life-changing promise: he would fund college tuition for every student who graduated high school. This moment sparked the creation of the 'I Have A Dream' Foundation, which has since established over 200 programs across 28 states, Washington, D.C., and New Zealand, serving 18,000 Dreamers.

Impact

Dreamers are over three times more likely to earn a bachelor's degree than their low-income peers. With a 90% high school graduation rate, compared to the national average of 74% for low-income students, the foundation is transforming lives and futures.
