Our Story
The Freestore Foodbank began in 1971 when Frank Gerson, a dedicated worker at Cincinnati’s incinerator, started collecting usable household items being discarded and distributing them to disadvantaged families. This compassionate initiative evolved into the Freestore Foodbank, which became a founding member of Feeding America in 1979.
Our Impact
Today, the Freestore Foodbank is one of Ohio’s largest food banks, distributing nearly 47 million meals annually through a network of 611 community partner agencies across 20 counties in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
