Our Story

On December 16th, 1980, Debbie Rice faced an unimaginable tragedy when her family home was reduced to ashes. With no insurance and just days before Christmas, the Rice family found themselves with nothing but the clothes on their backs. In their darkest hour, the kindness of neighbors provided food, clothing, and gifts, allowing them to survive this hardship. Inspired by this generosity, Debbie vowed to pay it forward. What began as a small closet in her church has blossomed into Debbie's Closet, a nonprofit dedicated to helping single mothers and their children.
