Transforming Lives for Over 155 Years
For more than 155 years, the Children’s Home Association of Illinois has been dedicated to uplifting at-risk youth and their families. Founded in 1866 by a group of compassionate women in Peoria, Illinois, the organization began as the Christian Home Mission, providing essential relief to families in need. Over the decades, the mission evolved to address the growing challenges of homelessness and poverty, leading to the establishment of the Home for the Friendless in 1875.
As the community's needs expanded, so did the services offered by the Children’s Home Association. From educational programs aimed at empowering young women with vocational skills to the creation of Kiefer School in 1967, CHAIL has continually adapted to serve the most vulnerable populations. Today, with over 400 dedicated employees operating from more than 10 locations, CHAIL provides a wide range of support services to at-risk youth across Illinois, from pregnancy support for expectant mothers to residential care for children with severe behavioral and emotional disorders.

Children's Home Association of Illinois is committed to providing critical services that help at-risk youth build networks of support, stay safe, and heal from trauma. The organization’s comprehensive approach ensures that no child slips through the cracks, offering services that begin in utero and extend to age 24.
