Birthing Beautiful Communities
EIN: 47-4453278 · Cleveland, OH
Our Story
Birthing Beautiful Communities (BBC) was established in 2014 by African American trained Perinatal Support Persons (PSP) in the Glenville neighborhood. The organization focuses on training, certifying, and employing PSPs who provide essential services to women at the highest risk for infant death. In April 2016, with support from the Cleveland Foundation, BBC launched a pilot program in the Hough neighborhood, where the infant mortality rate was nearly four times the national average. Since achieving 501c3 nonprofit status in 2017, BBC has positively impacted over 600 clients and trained more than 75 women as Perinatal Support Professionals, addressing the social determinants that lead to poor birth outcomes.
Impact
Birthing Beautiful Communities mobilizes local residents and partners to tackle the social, structural, and economic determinants of health, promoting health equity. Annually, BBC serves between 250 and 300 clients in Summit and Cuyahoga County.
