The Bangor Area Homeless Shelter opened its doors on Christmas Eve in 1986, starting as a humble 12-bed overnight facility. Developed by dedicated members of the Hammond Street Congregational Church, it has since expanded into a vital 38-bed shelter. With a team of 25 professionals, BAHS offers a soup kitchen, emergency food pantry, and permanent housing options, striving to support and strengthen the community.
In the fiscal year 2023/2024, BAHS made a significant impact by providing permanent housing, diverting individuals from homelessness, and serving countless meals to those in need.
