Our Story

The Africa Soil Information Service (AfSIS) began as a project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2009 and became an independent nonprofit organization in 2020. Dedicated to addressing land degradation in Africa, AfSIS provides tailored data and information services to research organizations, NGOs, private sector entities, and government ministries. By focusing on technology and knowledge transfer, AfSIS ensures that partners can continue their vital work independently.

Our Impact

AfSIS empowers governmental bodies, NGOs, and private sector organizations across Africa with precise land use and environmental mapping solutions. This fosters sustainable land, soil, and environmental management practices, facilitating informed decision-making and promoting resilient agricultural and rangeland management.
